I don’t usually follow talent shows because the final choice is quite often unexpected. Nevertheless, as I flicked onto one of the American Idol shows with Adam Lambert performing, my hair stood on end at the talent of this man. His voice and performance was iconic. Every time there was a new segment I watched with anticipation and recommended it to others.
He is a star in the making and everyone who watched him with me agreed. We got goosebumps every time he performed. He may have sometimes looked Gothic and with his black nail-polish could be misinterpreted but he was pure talent and the judges even gave him standing ovations. Adam changed his appearance to suit the genre assigned for that particular show, and any mentor supervising their performances could only confirm the enormity of his unique talent.
At that stage rumours abounded that he was gay too. Nevertheless, his talent was undoubtedly iconic no matter what his sexual preferences were. I expected that Americans would be far more progressive than they proved to be in the final vote.
When Adam did not win American Idol even the winner, Kris Allen, admitted he expected Adam deserved the award. Kris, the winner was talented in a traditional way but Adam was undoubtedly exceptional. I even taped his performances, something I had not done ever before. I imagined he was this generation’s Elvis Presley or Freddie Mercury, yet he fit in with KISS and Santana in the final show.
So when he did not win, I was convinced America’s bible belt had pushed for a majority vote against him.? I could just hear the religious leaders saying to their parishioners “make sure everyone votes for someone other than Adam who will lead our youth astray”.
Then Adam made it known that he is gay and good for him.
Well, it was obviously a prejudiced vote and I pledged I would not watch American Idol again.
And I haven’t since. Americans need to lift their game or they will be seen by the rest of the world as being backwards. No wonder more and more people are turning away from religions.So Adam, you will exceed and there are many worldwide who can see your talent and we are waiting for your CD’s. I am looking forward to the day that you become the star you deserve to be. And you will be.

Adam Lambert is a great singer and I think he deserves the success he achieves by now.

I agree with you and there are legions of us who turned into to American Idol because we heard about Adam Lambert. He certainly kept me coming back week after week–he is so good looking as well as talented. BUT I’d never watch American Idol again. No one can convenience me that there wasn’t something illegal or suspicious about that final vote. I think millions of people knew that something went wrong even before the AT&T thing was exposed.
Hearing now that the AI concerts are filling up with mostly Adam Lambert fans is quite telling about who was the fave on that show!
Anyway, I am grateful that the American Idol machine supported Adam Lambert in being totally himself throughout and that they recognized he is the next big thing in music and entertainment.
I love the way the bible-belt is frequently over ruled such as the majority vote for Obama and the crowning by popular lust uh, demand– America’s newest sweetheart is Adam Lambert!
Thanks to Rollingstone magazine for recognizing there needed to be a big gesture to counter that voting debacle and by putting Adam on the cover instead of Kris it did just that.

No doubt Adam Lambert is a pure talent. Even I was deeply saddened and highly shocked when I actually saw him leaving American idol because I thought he was going to be the winner. He surely had to be one! I did not except people to be so harassing and racist in voting. Talent is talent and clear in people who have it. Do looks and sexuality controversies matter? If yes then why do we have Lady Gaga kicking asses?

Adam Lambert, the gentle, wonderful and gracious man who will be the next biggest entertainer. Boy I am so glad that I tuned into Season 8 of American Idol.

Doc, I need help! I’m addicted to Adam Lambert and I am happy! Wish I had found your forum sooner, so I could comment on the psychology of loving/hating Adam Lambert. I’ve read that people are writing their thesis’ based on the prejudice surrounding Lambert.
It isn’t just Christians, by any means. But it seems to be mostly men, though not entirely.
At the basis for much homophobia is a total misunderstanding – a millenium old belief – that gays are sinners, people misbehaving. The truth is, as I understand it from the medical community, is that homosexuality is biological, psysiological, and sometimes genetic as well. You probably have a lot more info on this than I, a lay person, who started out decades ago to be a sociology major and psychology minor. Now enter some gay friends, friends who have gay adult children, and suspected gay family members, who had as much choice in their sexual preference as they did their eye color and which hand they wrote with.
Believe me, there are people in this country who would arrest and execute every gay person there is without a second thought.

I am a conservative Christian (62 and female)… and I voted 65 time in the finals for Adam! I am not really sure the ‘Christian’ vote led to his loss and as one of those Christians, I take issue with your conclusion. You have no data from which to draw any conclusion so it is unfair to paint all Christians with a broad, guilty brush. I think you have to look further into the type of person who votes on AI, the type of person who ‘mass’ votes, and the general popularity of the genre of music Adam represents, the demographis of the typical AI voter (not just watcher), and the genre that Chris represents. From the many blogs, etc, that I have read, it is the young females who voted for hours on end, and they were predomantly for Chris. I’d really like to see what percent of votes were mass-text votes as it is possible to vote a hundred times oftener! Also, Chris, more so than Adam, appeals to ‘middle America’ — and not just because he is straight.. but because of the low-key, popular type of music he represents. Also, since the final 3 were Adam, Chris, and Danny… I was almost possitive that Danny’s votes would go to Chris… and i don’t think we really know why. It could just have been because both Chris and Danny appealed to the same audience, and it is also the broadest audience. Finally, I think both Adam and Chris are talented in their own genre’s, and hope both will do well. As for me… I will be going to the Idol tour when it hits my hometown next week!… and I am definitely going specifically to see Adam!

I agree with everything you said except for the part about him fitting in with Santana. I don’t remember him with Santana but I do remember Santana being there, I think. Who he REALLY fit in with is Queen, which now consists of Brian May and Roger Taylor, John Deacon having gone into retirement. He was such a great fit that the hair on the back of my neck stood up when I looked around and saw them there. They were very impressed by him as well! There is a poll at Queenzone.com about whether Queen should work with Adam or not, if anyone else would like to vote on it. I would certainly love to see them appear togther.
