Dr. Affie Adagio is a semi-retired Family Therapist who specialises in compulsions and recovery based on the 12 Steps Program, NLP, and CBT. Affie is otherwise known as a Life Strategies Coach and has facilitated such groups. She is an NLP Practitioner, a Hypnotheraputic Practitioner, and a Natural Nutitionist (Naturopath).
Also an artist, poet and author Affie has published works such as “A Heart full of tears” (prose and sketches in black ink) which has had three print runs and she had sold some of her paintings and artwork. In 2015 Affie submitted a portrait of a celebrity into the Archibald Prize competition (which did not make it to the finals)
She describes herself as a Greek Romanian Australian (bi-lingual) recovering codependent and ex chain smoker who attended over 9 meetings of various 12 Steps groups per week for her PhD studies on addictions and for her own nicotine and codepedence recovery. She ran halfway houses for addicts. Affie heard over 20,000 recovery stories of recovering addicts.
She is the mother of son Paul Zagoridis (Film Producer) married to Nella (Public Servant) Â who have two daughters – Gaby (finished a double degree in Psychology and Philosophy at Sydney Uni beginning her Masters in Psychology in 2016) and Sabrina (Basketball Referee still in High School); daughter Tina Nicolitsis (Industrial Chemist) is married to Bill (Engineer) who have two children – Nicholas (Golfer and coach who is beginning Uni 2016 at UWS Sport Business degree) and talented singer daughter Talia (in High School). Affie is a Humanist Commonwealth Authorised Civil Marriage Celebrant (one of Humanist Celebrant Network founding member) who has over twenty years experience conducting civil marriages, namings and funerals here and interstate. She has had many couples from overseas seeking her celebrancy services.
She was Hon Secretary of Humanist Society of NSW and was HumSocNSW Vpts Editor for 12 years. Affie is also a Conference/Celebrations Convenor. The HumSocNSW (of which Affie was a past president) have her as their delegate to UNAA(NSW) Executive Committee where she is responsible for the Status of Women portfolio. In this capacity Affie designed and convened annually since 2010 the UN IWD (UN International Women’s Day) Seminar in State Parliament House. This is a partnership event for the UNAA(NSW) and for co-sponsor Humanist Society of NSW. She had been one of 22 community representatives sent by the Federal Govt. to the 1980 UN WOMEN’S CONFERENCE on Peace and Equality in Copenhagen attended by over 8,000 women. The government official who was resonsible for that privileged attendance was The Hon Bob Ellicott, the then Minister for Home Affairs.
Affie was on the Management committee of the Hellenic Cultural Association “Akropolis” (Greeks from Romania) – some years ago she was Hon Secretary on this committee and is part of these 300 families originally immigrating to Sydney (1950) as part of the Marshall Plan (Greek Romanian refugees from Greece).
She served as President of Chapter Arete, Sisters of Penelope, of AHEPA (Australian Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) – Â Greek Australians and is now representing Chaper Chiron in the Grand Lodge.
Was listed in WHO’s WHO of Australian Women (1996) showing her history and achievements.
